TITLE:           "Mussel Shells"

MEDIUM:       Watercolor  on paper

SIZE:             22 x 28"

COMMENTS:
The beaches of Puget Sound in Washington state where I live often are covered with mussel shells. They are the "throw away" shells of beach combers. I've always been intrigued with the colors of the inside of these shells much the same as I was as a child in California where we had abalone shells.

In this watercolor I contrasted two halves of seemingly throw away things of life (notice that the shells are turned so that they are not hinged and actually opposite to the way they would be hinged) to make something strikingly beautiful. The dark greens and blues of the background don't show up well in this photo. With a wide mat this is a powerful piece of wall art.
