This
original painting of sunflowers is a mixed media watercolor on paper. This kind of sunflower fascinated me because there is one large single sunflower head and many small heads all on one main stalk! I started drawing and painting them simply from an attractive design standpoint using strong, clear colors.
Later when I completed the painting, the first for 2005, I wondered what I was intuitively saying with the bright colors
and contrasting soft and hard edge paint applications of watercolors and acrylics for this subject.
The phrase "many though one" came to mind, and I thought how apt a title for the painting. I knew that as a familiar phrase in the New Testament of the Bible. The best reference for this concept and image, I think, is in First Corinthians, chapter 12. What a wealth of meaning that lends to this
painting!
The painting comes to you unframed. With a 2 1/4" mat on all sides, this will fit a standard size 16 x 20" frame. A very unique sunflower image, don't you think?
