Rural Landscape Colorful Paintings
A display of K.
Joann Russell's oil paintings of farm lands and western
ranches in the Northwest, colorful watercolors and acrylic paintings of
rural scenes.
Western United States
locales provide her with sources for her landscape paintings and prints.
A native of California, she used pastels for her first landscapes as a student in the San Francisco Bay
area. She remembers being surprised by the encouraging commendations of
her 8th grade art teacher. She was only having fun with the vibrant
colors in depicting familiar landmarks.
Her
love for rural
landscapes grew out of memorable childhood experiences at her grandparents' ranch in the foothills of the San
Joaquin Valley and
her parents' rural property in the Los Gatos area. When
her family moved to a ranch in Southern Oregon their horses went with
them, and cattle became an important part of their life.
Ocean Beaches Seascape Art
Light, colors, and spacious vistas
in California, Oregon, and Washington attract her attention as an artist.
Beaches top the list of her favorite places. Summers at the Pacific Ocean beaches
enjoying the waves, surf, and sand give her images for colorful seascape paintings.
The
beautiful painting above of an Oregon beach,
"Siletz Bay", a 20 x 16" acrylic on canvas, graced the cover of the Spring Hill Review magazine, a Journal of Northwest Culture, for the month of June, 2002.
